Tata Nexon Variants Explained and Which Trim to Buy

Quick answer

Start with Pure Plus and Creative when choosing a family Nexon. Pure Plus is the lower-cost comparison point, while Creative deserves attention when its parking and convenience equipment matters. Petrol automatic buyers should compare AMT and DCA separately. A diesel automatic or CNG buyer needs a different shortlist rather than copying the petrol recommendation.

The Tata Nexon best variant is the least expensive configuration that meets your engine, gearbox and daily-equipment needs. Sunroof and appearance packages can be considered afterwards. The current range has conditions that matter, especially around driver assistance and CNG equipment.

This article covers the combustion-engine Nexon and factory iCNG range. Nexon EV is a separate purchase with different batteries, charging requirements and trim choices. Do not transfer an EV feature list to a petrol, diesel or CNG quotation.

Read the whole variant name

Tata's current specification list contains Smart, Pure Plus, Creative and Fearless families with further package and edition names. The long name is useful information, not paperwork to ignore. Fuel, transmission and package can each change what the vehicle includes.

Ask the dealer to write the complete configuration on the offer. If a salesperson says a car has the same features as the demonstration model, check that the engine, gearbox and package match too.

Separate ordinary trims from Dark, Red Dark and Camo offers. Appearance preferences are valid, but compare their actual equipment and price. A special colour or edition does not automatically add every feature shown in model-wide advertising.

If the offered car is earlier stock, request its correct specification. Current and older vehicles with similar names should not be compared as though only the discount differs.

Choose the fuel before the equipment package

Main useFirst shortlistWhat needs a separate check

Longer-distance diesel useSuitable diesel manual or AMTAnnual kilometres and usage pattern
Factory CNGCurrent iCNG trimsLuggage, filling access and fuel-specific exclusions
Driver assistance requirementCorrect upper petrol DCA packageExact ADAS fitment rather than model-wide wording

This is a decision framework, not a complete stock list. Use Tata's current variant selector and the dealer's written confirmation to identify the orderable cars that meet each requirement.

For low annual driving, a fuel-saving calculation may not repay an extra purchase cost within your ownership period. For any fuel, estimate realistic use rather than assuming the best certified number will appear on every journey.

Smart for the buyer keeping costs down

An entry Nexon can make sense when the household wants the vehicle without paying for higher-grade convenience equipment. Check your requirements before assuming a lower trim must be modified extensively.

Sit in the actual version and try the seating, visibility and controls. Confirm the fitted equipment against the brochure. If a particular camera or phone function is essential, compare the factory-equipped trim before approving a separate installation.

Add only accessories you genuinely intend to purchase. A quotation containing costly appearance products can make an entry car seem closer in price to a higher trim than it really is. Ask for an itemised offer with optional products clearly identified.

The lowest advertised starting price is not the same thing as the price of your chosen automatic or CNG. Confirm the vehicle description before deciding that the budget is sufficient.

Pure Plus as the first family comparison

Pure Plus is a useful point from which to compare the equipment you need with the money you can spend. The current selector lists several Pure Plus fuel and transmission combinations, including further roof packages. Confirm the exact one instead of requesting simply a Pure Nexon.

Make a short list of non-negotiable features. These may be phone connectivity, a usable reversing view, rear ventilation and an automatic gearbox. Keep decorative preferences on a separate list.

Then compare Pure Plus with Creative in the same fuel and transmission where available. This shows what an equipment upgrade actually costs. Comparing two different engines at the same time makes it harder to judge the value of the trim change.

Try the controls with your own phone while parked. A feature shown in a demonstration may depend on the handset, connection method or fitted system. Confirm the functions you expect before treating them as part of the purchase.

Creative for parking and daily convenience

Tata's current variant page lists a surround-view system, alloy wheels, push-button start and automatic temperature control among Creative's additions over Pure Plus. It also identifies a rear wiper and washer in this part of the ladder.

Those items can be useful without making Creative the answer for everyone. A buyer with tight parking may care about camera views. A family travelling through rain may care about rear visibility. Judge the package by those needs rather than counting features.

Check the camera image from the normal driving position and ask how each view is selected. Keep using direct observation and mirrors. A camera has limits and does not establish that every obstacle will be visible.

Operate the temperature panel while stationary. Decide whether the control arrangement is comfortable for the regular drivers. A longer equipment list should not distract from basic ease of use.

S and PS choices need a roof decision

The current range contains both sunroof and panoramic-roof packages. Tata's page identifies panoramic-roof equipment in Pure Plus PS, while Creative Plus S is described with a voice-assisted electric sunroof. Check the selected package rather than assuming the suffixes are interchangeable.

If a roof opening is important, view the actual arrangement and read its operating instructions. Keep everyone properly seated and belted during travel. A sunroof is not a reason for an occupant to stand through the opening.

If you do not want one, price the suitable non-roof version first. You may prefer to keep the difference for insurance, fuel or a stronger emergency reserve. A feature used occasionally can still be enjoyable, but it should be bought knowingly.

Fearless and driver assistance require care

The current official variant selector identifies upper Fearless Plus A PS DCA petrol entries. Tata's model page also states that ADAS is not available in CNG or diesel. An upper badge alone is therefore insufficient evidence that a particular car includes the system.

Ask for the precise assistance-equipped variant and its current equipment list. Do not assume a Fearless manual, diesel or CNG receives the same package as a displayed petrol DCA.

Driver assistance is not self-driving. Read the relevant operating limits and remain attentive. Ask for a safe explanation of warning and assistance functions without attempting a dangerous braking or lane test on a public road.

Upper trims can also appeal for comfort or entertainment. Try those provisions separately. Do not pay for a whole package mainly because one advertised function sounds impressive before checking whether you will actually use it.

AMT and DCA should not share one recommendation

Both remove the need to operate a clutch pedal, but the transmission arrangements are different. A petrol AMT test drive does not establish how the petrol DCA will behave in slow traffic or while reversing.

Drive the actual selected version on a representative route. Check gentle starts, low-speed control and a safe incline where permitted. Ask for the correct handbook guidance instead of relying on instructions for another automatic car.

Compare the complete upgrade cost. If DCA is available in a different equipment package, the gap includes more than the transmission. Keep the distinction clear before deciding that the extra payment is worthwhile.

For diesel AMT, make a separate assessment. Do not transfer a petrol DCA preference to the diesel simply because both are described as automatic.

CNG features and luggage need their own inspection

Tata explicitly excludes some petrol-and-diesel features from CNG, including cruise control and certain connected services. A petrol showroom vehicle is therefore not enough to confirm an iCNG order.

Inspect the actual CNG trim, bring the bags you normally carry and keep the required passenger positions in use. Do not compare luggage space after removing or disturbing safety-related equipment.

Check filling access on your normal routes. Include detours and queuing in the convenience decision. Ask for the correct maintenance and inspection requirements, and keep the factory-CNG specification separate from an aftermarket conversion offer.

For running-cost comparisons, calculate each fuel in rupees per kilometre. Petrol is normally expressed in km/l and CNG in km/kg, so the raw mileage figures should not be directly compared. Include extra purchase and finance costs before claiming a saving.

Compare two written on road offers

ItemWhat should be clear
CarFull trim, fuel, gearbox and edition
PriceVehicle amount and any colour-related charge
RegistrationCorrect location and ownership category
InsuranceComparable cover, insured value and deductible
AccessoriesOptional products listed separately
Finance and deliveryTotal repayment, timing and refund terms

Ask which bundled products can be removed. A discount linked to expensive finance or accessories may not reduce the total amount paid. Keep the calculation about the actual offer rather than an advertised starting price.

Questions about Nexon variants

Which Nexon trim should I inspect first

Compare Pure Plus and Creative in the same suitable powertrain. Start lower if the budget is firm, or move higher only for specific equipment that matters. Check the exact configuration and on-road price.

Does every Fearless Nexon have ADAS

No. Check the assistance-equipped petrol DCA entry and current written specification. Tata's current information excludes diesel and CNG from ADAS. A broad upper-trim name is not enough.

Are AMT and DCA the same

No. They are different transmission arrangements. Test the actual version you plan to order and read its operating instructions before deciding which better fits your driving.

Can I use the petrol equipment list for CNG

Not without checking fuel-specific conditions. The official page lists exclusions for CNG. Confirm the iCNG specification, luggage arrangement and service requirements separately.

Choose the version your family can use comfortably

Bring regular passengers, try the correct powertrain and identify two suitable trims. Request itemised quotations and written delivery terms. Book only after the specification and complete ownership cost are clear.
