Lotus was started by engineer Colin Chapman, who built his first car in 1948. His philosophy of "simplify, then add lightness" produced landmark sports cars and decades of Formula One success. Majority-owned by China's Geely since 2017, Lotus now also builds electric performance cars, and it entered India in 2023 with the Eletre SUV.
